What are everyone's thoughts on this series?
I'm a glutton for 80s/90s action, the cheesier the better. I love the idea of these films and the cast. I think I prefer the first movie over the 2nd. I think Stallone is a more interesting director than Simon West, though the first movie did have a bit of shaky cam sadly.
Ex2 had a great cast but looked very cheap at times. Especially the CGI vehicles, fire, and blood. And not a single montage to be found! This type of filmmaking seems to go against what they're trying to celebrate with this franchise. The Fast and Furious franchise has outdone them in terms of big exciting action scenes.
Still, I'm glad these films were made and look forward to number 3 despite the absence of Seagal, Brian Bosworth, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, and Michael Dudikoff

I'm trying to forward to EX3, but I found EX2 a bit of a let-down. I really enjoyed the first flick and one of my favourite parts was the cast. In the second one they went out and got every aging action star they could at the time, and I felt like the original team was relegated to the background for comic relief. I think it's great to have all of these cameos, but I'd much rather watch one of these movies where the original cast is still front and centre.
Judging by the casting choices for the third film, it looks like they're going the same route. I think it's great to get to see Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson, and Harrison Ford in the cast, but Kelsey Grammer and Antonio Banderas?
Anyway, I'm still feeling optimistic I'll like it, but we'll just have to wait and see!

Yeah, Kelsey Grammer is a very odd choice. From what I hear that was originally supposed to be a part for Nic Cage. Banderas I like for Assassins and Zoro, but I read that his role in Ex3 was meant for Seagal.

I very much dislike the series.
I get the joke. A bunch of pigeonholed, over-the-hill action stars written into the same script as if to say, "Separately we can't draw flies, but together we are worth the ticket price!"
For me it turns the entire thing into an unwatchable farce. The depth of talent is the movie. The actors make no effort to portray a character. We are meant to be happy with just seeing their face and remembering how much we loved Commando and Missing in Action.
People loathe remakes, but applaud this turd of a franchise?

I saw the first one in the theater and fell asleep for most of it. I am boycotting the 3rd on because Ronda Rousey is in it. The idea of these films seems much better than the actual execution.

Expendables is an awesome series. Love big, over the top action films. These movies are like a blast from the past. Way better than all the modern action movies, which all seem to be about fast cars driving erratically. It's always awesome to see the new cast members for each film.

What Jay and Ryho said pretty much nailed it: I enjoyed the first one but it wasn't amazing and the second was mostly a letdown. I have no plans to spend money on a movie that contains Rousey and Gibson. The shark has been jumped and in disturbing fashion.
